"Sixth Sense" Technology

This is brilliant.

Back in high school, I had this crazy dream of creating a device that projects a three dimensional space with grid where stuff from geometry can be projected, for easier and more effective learning. It could easily make sectional views, explode figures, and the like. This invention is entirely different, but it reminded me of that.

Carrying around a projector is so useful, and being able to interact with the information with is incredible. (Wouldn't it be so useful in UP? No need to deal with all the renting & reservation hassles...)

I'm excited for what lies ahead for this technology and its inventor. It's also great to know that it's easily mass produced, and won't be too expensive.

In the Hood

I like the one with Marilyn Monroe. XD

hoodies!

Dancing on the Bed

I can't imagine how this was made (must have involved a lot of... exercise on the girl's part) but its pretty amazing. I like the part where she's swimming with the sock fishes.

Oh, the creativity of humans! ^_^

Were you Spanked?

I was.

In Philo1 the other day, our prof asked us if:

1. Were you spanked?

2. Would you do that do your kids?

But I was hardly spanked. My parents were attentive in disciplining their kids. But rather than using the pamalo to pound in a lesson, they would explain why a certain action was wrong. I'm thankful that my parents brought me up this way... that despite my youth they treated me as a reasonable and thinking being. Because of this, I avoided doing certain things, not because it was "bad" but because I understood the consequences of the action. This rearing up through reason also instilled values of being considerate, being a good sister (Bea and I fought a lot when we were kids), and the Golden rule at an early age.

One of the few incidences I was spanked.
I was in grade 2, and my mom used to tutor me in Chinese. I really hated having to memorize all the phonetics and characters, and was impatient to get it over with. So, while reviewing for the mock test, I wrote the answers on my hand.
But I was caught.

So my mom goes, "Barby, go downstairs to get the featherduster"
And I go down. (eeep!) But instead of getting it, I chose to hide in the helper's room. (yeah, yeah, talino diba?) After several minutes my mom shouted, "BARBY, WHERE ARE YOU?"
I remained silent and hoped she wouldn't find me. Eventually came down and spanked me on the hand. Afterwads, she told me that she loves me very much and explained the consequences of cheating.
I really deserved it in this instance because I was acting like a spoiled (and lazy) brat.

If I have kids in the future, I would bring them up in the same way. Even though kids can be rowdy, they're also beings with minds and sensibilities. If I say to my child "Don't do that! Bad yan!" I risk two things: one, my child being stigmatized as being "bad" (and what child wants to be labelled as bad person? it's a bit traumatising, isn't it?), and secondly, not nipping the problem in the bud. I don't believe in threatening my child or hitting them or spanking them, unless the situation absolutely absolutely reasonably calls for it.

I'd like my children to act sensibly and correctly, not out of fear, but out of understanding. :)

Proverbs 3:11-12
11 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline
and do not resent his rebuke,

12 because the LORD disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in.

Proverbs 12:24
He who spares the rod hates his son,
but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.

Proverbs 29:17
Discipline your son, and he will give you peace;
he will bring delight to your soul.

Note:
1. In disciplining my kids (if I ever do have any) I would consider their ages as well.
2. I don't like parents who "power trip" on their kids. Yung abuso na. That makes me very angry.

I just ate a raw egg

And it feels so liberating!

Prior to eating the egg I checked if there were cracks and holes, and washed it in salt and salted water.
Halfway through drinking it I thought I was going to gag. But I swallowed it like a brave little viking. ^_^

I hope that a few hours from now I don't start pooping like mad.

Thankful 12009

The day began at 6:00am (thanks to Bea who's first class is a hellish 7:00-----and to think it's lab!)

Things to remember from today:

1. Encouragement from my mom and aunties and good/best friends. :)

I usually borderline on knowing I'm God has given me talents and stuff I'm good at... that, and the fear that I don't have anything at all, since so many people have existed and are doing/have done great things in the world. Nothing is new under the sun. But I'm well on my way to finding my own niche. It's a matter of taking the time (oh, time!) and discipline. :) I've already accomplished some
things so far. So... Let's conquer the world, baby! All those words of affirmation are such blessings. :)

2. "Absolutely Refuse To Worry"
from a book I'm currently reading. This is top-notch advice for people who want to stay focused. It's also good for the health. :P

3. Hades and Persephone

They are so interesting/cute/evil/dark&devious! This is all thanks to my friend Anne for posting a link of a fanfic. My next owl pet will be names Hades. Teeheehee! I'm so inspired! Will make something... soon.

an excerpt:

Hades gagged. "Poetry? Are you serious?"

"Poetry," Apollo said firmly. "Also, do you still have that helm of invisibility? You could sneak into her bedroom at night and watch her sleep!"

Hades stared at the other god, bewildered. "Why on earth would I want to watch her sleep?"

"Trust me," Apollo assured him. "Girls love that sort of stuff. It's all very romantic."

And so began Hades' courtship of the beautiful Persephone.

Wanna read it too?

4. New homework: A reflection paper on...
Reconciling the presence of a good God and the existence of evil (and suffering, if I may add) Not the first time I've encountered this. But for the first time, I actually know what to answer.

Back to work!

Thankful 11709

Things that tickle my gratitude and... transitively, happy neurons:

1. Caressing La Senza's Marshmallow Plush Robes. Wouldn't it be such a dream to sleep in such softness?

2. The smell of oranges (Rustans supermarket in Rockwell has a fresh orange squeezer! :D). It is one of the most invigorating scents in the world!

3. Hurt. Surrender. Restoration. (Thank You for the wonderful surprise!)

4. Beautiful wallpaper and fabrics (as seen in Weaves of Asia. Too bad they don't give away samples.) (PERO GRABE, ANG MAHAL!)

5. Finishing the first of fifty books for 2009! HURRAH! AND being rewarded for it. Heeheehee. (Dairy Queen Banana Split Blizzard. MMMMM.)

6. Japanese snacks. Dropped by the Konbini Store the other day and saw an array of new snacks, expensive Japanese strawberries (they look almost unreal... so plump and red!). One day when I have enough money, I will raid that store and come out with a feast!

Pet Peeves

1. Sharing the bathroom with other people. Sharing spaces with other people, for the matter. I'm a very private person. But I'm cooperative and harmonious, when I have to. :3

Frustrations

1. How on earth does one paste larger pictures on blog entries in blogspot, multiply, and livejournal? They always end up being some 300x200 tiny thing. URGH. oh, make that URGH!!!!!!!!
